Yarn Along-Knit Hats and Books

Yarn Along www.laurabraydesigns.comAnother week has gone by and I'm still knitting.  Granted it's on my loom, but I don't care.  It makes me happy.  This weekend, I finished a hat for my daughter and sewed a cute felt flower on the side.  (To make the flowers, you can watch me on Creative Living with Sheryl Borden here.) I also made a cute, little hat for my daughter's doll.  The doll is named Alice and she's quite fond of dressing up and reading with my daughter.  They are currently reading the book, Unbored.  It's really a great book for the whole family.  Full of old fashioned ideas for keeping oneself busy and engaged.

Yarn Along www.laurabraydesigns.comI'm reading A Walk in the Woods.  It's a light and funny book, yet thought provoking too.  I'm learning things about the US Forestry department that I never knew (and not all of those things are good!) and it's getting me thinking about how little I walk anywhere.  It makes me itch to take a hike, yet it also makes me realize a walk in the woods isn't without dangers like bears and snakes and, unfortunately, other people.  So maybe I'll just sit on my couch and knit instead.  Kidding.  I'm going to try to walk more.  Really. I am. Just as soon as I finish my next knitting project and reading my book.

  1. I love the felted flower on her hat.  I've always crocheted the flowers for my hats, but I may re-think that.  Thanks for visiting my random thoughts today.  It's amamzing how many Jennifer Millers there really are!

What size loom did you use for the doll hat?  I just got a loom set at michaels today. I'm hoping I can actually do this.

If you have trouble with the loom, check-out YouTube.  There are a ton of videos for the looms and I have found it more helpful than reading the directions.  For the doll hat, I used the smallest size, round loom.  I think it measures about 4″.  To decide which loom to use for hats, I usually put the loom on the head I’m knitting for!  If it’s a little big, but pretty fits, the hat that comes out of it will work.  Let me know how it goes for you!
