This is a story about making your dreams come true. Since starting on my creative journey ten years ago, I’ve always wanted to have a line of stamps. In 2015, I thought it was going to happen when a company accepted my designs, but the deal fell apart because of some copyright control issues. I took a bit of time to recover from that then, in early 2016, I decided to manufacture the stamp line myself! I met with Judi, of Judikins fame for a fateful dinner to discuss what I wanted to do and, while we were talking, I had a moment when I got tunnel vision, the room spun, and my skin tingled. I knew then I was on the right path. I had NEVER had a physical reaction to my intuition before-I had read about it, but never experienced and it was a life changing moment for me.
I sent my first set of designs to be made into a plate. The day I went to see the plate at the factory was another big moment. My husband, daughter, and I celebrated with lunch afterwards. Later, when the first stamp set came in, I celebrated again. But then I did what I usually do. I made excuses for not moving forward with the project. In my defense, we were in the process of moving to a new state, but I could have pushed through. I just had a million reasons not to do it.
Have you ever read The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level? According to the author we all suffer from an “Upper Limit Problem”, a subconscious set-point that we won’t let ourselves go beyond. When we start push against our upper limit of financial success, recognition, even happiness, we subconsciously hold ourselves back. We might get sick, create drama, or just freeze in place. And I was obviously doing that with my stamp release.
So I tried to overcome it. I signed up artists and crafters for my design team, but I was also re-branding, so I wanted to wait until that was done. (Oh the excuses I can come up with to avoid pushing outside my comfort zone!) Of course, re-branding took much longer than I anticipated, but it’s done and I am really ready to release my stamps THIS MONTH. Yay! I’m so excited to have these come out into the world. You’ll soon be seeing projects and be able to order them, but today’s post is more about telling you my story in the hopes that you will see that whatever creative pursuit you are struggling with, you CAN push through it. Don’t feel like you have waited too long, or too many “things” keep getting in the way. Just pick yourself back-up and start again. I promise you will feel great if you do.
I’m cheering you on,
