The day to show you some of the changes to my house has finally come. All that whining I did about living through a remodel is finally paying off. Of course, everything isn't done yet. I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever be done. All those little details are eluding me. But it's primarily finished and I'm feeling so much better about life. I'm such a homebody! I didn't realize how very much I needed to have a cozy home in order to function in my every day life. I think the misery of the remodel actually helped me create a better home for my family.
(Here's the before shot. Messy, but it's the only one I could find! I forgot to take a good before photo before we started moving everything out!)
Not only did a I make things prettier and more functional with new paint, wood floors, and new furniture, I also really took some time to think about what my family wants in life and decorated according to that. Since we replaced the floors, we basically had to move everything out of the downstairs. It all got packed up and went into the garage and now, as I unpack, I'm being very deliberate about what I'm letting back in. There's a lot of stuff that I didn't want or need anymore, but it just stayed in the house because it was already there. I also made sure that we have easy access to the things that are important to us. We have more of our library of books downstairs now and our board games are in a prominent place on a living room shelf. Having them there has resulted in a lot more game nights. I can't begin to tell you how happy with the changes I made. When I look at my after photo, I feel giddy-as if I'm looking at a magazine shot of a living room. And yet it's mine! All mine!
